Red Threads

***I was planning on publishing this blog post a lot earlier in the week, but I just didn’t feel right sharing something so frivolous as fashion after everything that happened on Monday night. I’ve felt so empty and sad since, and there’s not been a minute where I’ve not thought about what happened. The reaction from emergency services and the general public has been so amazing, and although the attack was a monstrous act, the support people have been offering each other has really given me some hope for humanity. I just wanted to mention that at the start before got into the main post.***

I’ve had a pretty eventful past week. I started my new job which I’m loving, been to the theatre, done TWO classes at the gym (I know) and made the most of the UK’s mini heat wave with many an ice cream and cider. Unfortunately, the clouds are back over Liverpool but I’m determined to spend as much of the bank holiday weekend outside (even though our planned BBQ may have to take place inside). It’s been over a week since I last posted even though I promised myself I wouldn’t leave it that long again, but I pinky promise this time that I will start to get back into my routine of posting regularly again. I’ve got a new blog template coming so soon (hopefully this week!) and I’m sooo happy with it so that’s very exciting.

I’ve been in a bit of a shopping mode at the moment even more than usual, and one of the pieces I’ve picked up is this amazing red wrap top. I’m slightly upset that it’s a bit too hot to wear the past few days, but that’s really not something I should be complaining about. I saw it on Lizzy Hadfield from shotfromthestreet and I instantly fell in love. If you’re not following Lizzy’s blog or instagram by the way you seriously should, she’s one of my top blogger inspirations and she also has a youtube channel which is amazing. I’m seriously loving wearing red at the moment so this is the perfect piece to add to my wardrobe. I’m thinking about sharing some love and doing a post on the bloggers that I follow and who inspires me so please do let me know if that’s something you’d be interested in!

I’ve paired the top with my MissSelfridge jeans which honestly I’m starting to fall out of love with because I don’t think they’re the most flattering pair which is a shame, and my old Topshop boots. I don’t think I’ll ever not wear boots in summer, although I am currently on the search for the perfect pair of sandals so I will let you know when I find them. I’ve got my eye on a couple so far…

I have a few blog posts planned for the next couple of weeks already so please stay tuned because I promise to be back soon!

5 things I’m loving this week

Hello! I’ve decided to do something a little different today and share five things that I’ve been loving this week! I’m hoping to make this a regular thing so please let me know if you like it! Without further ado…

What I’ve been watching: Big Little Lies

I’m a bit late to the party on this one, but I’ve now watched the first two episodes of Big Little Lies, and I’ve got to admit that I’m already hooked. If you’ve been living under a rock like I was and haven’t yet seen it, the show follows three mums, played by Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Shailene Woodley. It’s basically a crime/drama/dark comedy show, and it will give you serious house envy. Seriously, I am considering giving it all up in favour of finding a way to live in one of their beachfront homes. Also – please no spoilers I will cry!

What I’ve been listening to: Crash On My Couch (podcast)

I’ve been watching Arden Rose’s videos for about 6 years now, so when she and her boyfriend Will Darbyshire brought out their own podcast series I thought I’d give it a listen. It’s very easy listening and entertaining, and I tend to listen to it when I’m getting ready in the mornings, or cleaning the flat. Worth a listen if you haven’t already!

What I’ve been eating: Bagels

I could have picked something that makes me sound a bit more interesting, but honestly, I have recently developed a bagel obsession. I have realised that they may be the perfect food, because you can literally eat them at any time of the day and it’s perfectly acceptable. Breakfast? Bagel. Lunch? Bagel. Midnight snack? Bagel. Top tip: toasted with a generous amount of Philadelphia spread is the best way to eat them.

What I’ve been wearing: Slogan Tees

Oh, slogan tees. You have saved my life. Okay, maybe not my life, but they’ve definitely saved me from not knowing what to wear. It’s a miracle that I’m not wearing one in this post! I think I need to go to slogan tees anonymous because I am addicted. I even bought another one yesterday. Someone stop me before my wardrobe is only made up of slogan tees (just kidding, that’s the dream).

What app I’ve been using: Gin Rummy

I blame my boyfriend for this, because he introduced me to it. I’d never even heard of this game a few weeks ago, and now I’m obsessed. It’s basically a card game in which you’re dealt 10 cards, and you will have to look up the rest of the rules yourself if you’re interested because I just tried to explain them on here and ended up confusing myself. Warning: it’s addictive.

Why I took a break from blogging…

Long time no speak! First things first, I’ve got to address the fact that I’ve had almost a three week long break from blogging. I’m pretty sure a week is the longest I’ve ever previously taken off from posting, and I’ve got to admit that I’ve got no particular excuse. I’ve taken copious amounts of pictures over the past few weeks that I intended to use for blog posts, but nothing seemed quite right. I’ve honestly just had a lack of inspiration and just became disheartened with it all! I became obsessive over my instagram and trying to gain more followers, and disheartened with how I can never quite translate what I have in my head for the aesthetic and topics for my blog to reality. I’m also a photographer down as my boyfriend’s (he takes my pics) work situation has changed so he has a lot less time to dedicate to helping me out! This also means that on his days off he doesn’t particularly feel like spending his time playing photographer. Nevertheless, after taking a step back I’ve decided that over the next few weeks I’m planning on throwing a lot of time and energy into my blog, and I’m working on getting a brand new template very soon.

So without further ado, I’ll get onto my outfit. Slogan tees are pretty much my favourite things right now, because not only are they incredibly comfy and effortless to throw on, they’re also bang on trend. Hallelujah! This particular one is from Topshop, as is evidently heavily inspired by the Gucci tee that’s been making the rounds recently. It’s also my third French slogan tee, the other two being featured here and here. I chose to pair it with this navy sack style skirt, as the red from the top brings them together perfectly. Navy and red is one of my fave colour combinations, for obvious reasons – they look fab together. The same goes for this uhmaaazing red mini bag from Primark of all places(!!!!). Although it doesn’t hold much, it’s the perfect bag for throwing your phone, keys and card in this summer, and it even has a cute little golden bee on the popper. What more can you ask for? It was a glorious sunny day when I took these pictures so I jumped at the chance of bare legs, no jacket and sunglasses, but of course opted for boots because I’m in them pretty much all year round.

Talking Trends #3 : Pink

Hello all! I hope you’ve had a lovely Easter and are as full of chocolate as I am. I’m currently eyeing up my last egg and trying to resist it for as long as possible. Not sure how long it’s going to last. Anyway, I’m back today after a short break with a new Talking Trends post. It’s no secret that pink is everywhere at the moment, and I for one am absolutely loving it. So, when I was doing my regular scroll through the Zara app, I instantly fell in love with these UH-MAZING jeans. Both this baby pink colour and ruffles are incredibly popular at the moment, so they tick all the boxes for spring/summer. I’ve had many a compliment on them so far including from a stranger in Home Bargains, and my boyfriends 6 year old niece who told me they make me look like a cowgirl. Not entirely sure if that’s a good thing or not, but I will take it. I’ve been trying to inject a bit more colour into my mostly monochromatic wardrobe recently, and these are a pretty good addition if you ask me. If you want to see how I’m getting on with that, you can check out my instagram (@daisycuttings) where I share outfit pictures most days!

Sticking with the colours theme, I paired the jeans with a navy blue slogan tee. I know, I know, navy isn’t exactly a daring colour, but at least it’s not black or white! I will definitely be pairing these with a white tee in the near future though… This top is another new addition to my wardrobe, because I’ve been really loving slogan tees at the moment. I love this one from Topshop, and I also picked up another one which says ‘Ferme La Bouche’ which I’m sure will be gracing my blog very soon.

Right, I’ve got to go as I don’t think I can take another minute of not eating my egg. Thanks for reading!

5 ways to instantly brighten your mood

Hello all, thank god it’s the weekend am I right? The sun is shining, the drinks are flowing and everyone seems to be in a good mood. Nice weather is something that we don’t get that often here in England, but when the sun does eventually come out to play it feels like a weight has been lifted and suddenly that thing that’s been stressing you out doesn’t seem that important after all. So, today I’ve decided to share some of my bad mood busting tips for when the sunshine isn’t around to give you a helping hand. Without further ado…

Puppy videos.
Or any dog really, young or old. This has got to be my number one tip, and I cannot stress enough how much happier it makes me. Whenever I’m feeling sad or down, I sit on my bed, get YouTube up and watch endless videos of dogs. My personal faves are labradors or golden retrievers, and if you really need cheering up, type in dogs playing with babies – trust me, you will not be disappointed.

Eat some chocolate.
It’s scientifically proven that chocolate releases endorphins that make you happier. Do you need me to say more?

This may not sound like something that would cheer you up, but it can be quite therapeutic and it always feels good to have a clean and tidy home. I find that cleaning and tidying gives me time to think about things, whilst also doing something productive. My flat is tidy most of the time anyway, so I don’t always have much to do, so I like to organise things like my wardrobe or food cupboard. Maybe I’m just weird, but each to their own!

Have a bath.
Is there anything more relaxing than a nice bubble bath with a few candles? I always end up getting books wet in the bath, so I tend to prop my laptop on the toilet seat and watch something. Whenever I need cheering up I stick to easy watching comedies, like New Girl or anything with Karl Pilkington. He makes me laugh more than anyone, and I listen to the XFM podcasts with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant all the time.

Read a good book.
Reading is something that I did literally ALL of the time when I was younger, but I got out of the habit when I went to uni. Thankfully though, over the last few months I’ve started to read a lot more, and I honestly believe that it’s good for the soul. I’m currently rereading To Kill a Mockingbird, which I haven’t read for about 6 or 7 years, and I just love curling up in bed with it after a long day.

So, basically my advice is watch puppy videos in the bath, whilst eating chocolate, and afterwards read a book in your clean and tidy home.

I would like to point out that these tips are just my own personal preference, and obviously may not work for everyone. If you’ve been feeling down for a while then please don’t hesitate to speak to someone or seek professional help!
