Hello and happy Sunday! Unfortunately it seems that Liverpool’s moment in the sun only lasted a day as it’s looking fairly grey and miserable at the moment. Yesterday was the first real day that felt like Spring had finally arrived, so of course the whole of it was spent outside. I even stripped off my coat and scarf, would you believe?!
Over the last few months I’ve been slowly but surely making a mental list of some staple pieces that I want to invest in throughout the coming months. It pretty much consists of the standard basics that either I don’t already own, or would like to update this year. One thing that I challenged myself to find was the perfect (and affordable) leather jacket.
Hello all! I hope you’ve had a lovely Easter and are as full of chocolate as I am. I’m currently eyeing up my last egg and trying to resist it for as long as possible. Not sure how long it’s going to last. Anyway, I’m back today after a short break with a new Talking Trends post. It’s no secret that pink is everywhere at the moment, and I for one am absolutely loving it. So, when I was doing my regular scroll through the Zara app, I instantly fell in love with these UH-MAZING jeans. Both this baby pink colour and ruffles are incredibly popular at the moment, so they tick all the boxes for spring/summer. I’ve had many a compliment on them so far including from a stranger in Home Bargains, and my boyfriends 6 year old niece who told me they make me look like a cowgirl. Not entirely sure if that’s a good thing or not, but I will take it. I’ve been trying to inject a bit more colour into my mostly monochromatic wardrobe recently, and these are a pretty good addition if you ask me. If you want to see how I’m getting on with that, you can check out my instagram (@daisycuttings) where I share outfit pictures most days!
Sticking with the colours theme, I paired the jeans with a navy blue slogan tee. I know, I know, navy isn’t exactly a daring colour, but at least it’s not black or white! I will definitely be pairing these with a white tee in the near future though… This top is another new addition to my wardrobe, because I’ve been really loving slogan tees at the moment. I love this one from Topshop, and I also picked up another one which says ‘Ferme La Bouche’ which I’m sure will be gracing my blog very soon.
Right, I’ve got to go as I don’t think I can take another minute of not eating my egg. Thanks for reading!

Today is quite literally a SUN-day, and understandably I couldn’t contain my excitement when I opened my curtains this morning and saw blue skies. Three of our resident seagulls (which we now have 4 of) are enjoying sunning themselves on the roof opposite, whilst one is seemingly having none of it and has been sleeping in the shade all day. Oh to be a seagull. Obviously I needed to take full advantage of this rare weather and sport something summer appropriate, even though it is only 13 degrees outside. Enter this red dress. Recently on instagram, I’ve been seeing a lot of people posting pictures of clothes they’ve bought from Matalan, all which have been lovely. So, with that in mind I nipped into town last week with the aim of having a little snoop around their clothing section. Now, Matalan and I go way back to my school days. I remember when I first started sixth form (in my school we had to wear formal clothes), and my mum took me to Matalan to stock up on workwear attire and we left a trolley full of stuff. So from these fond memories I knew that they have a pretty strong workwear selection, and of course I’ve drooled over their homewear for as long as I can remember. For some reason though, I’d never ventured in for day to day clothes. But boy I will be doing so from now often.
After narrowing it down to about 8 items to take into the changing room, I finally settled on this red dress. Trust me, I would have bought more, but I’m on a budget so I restricted myself to one item only – that’s discipline for you. I’m pretty sure every girl has owned a dress like this at some point in their lives, most likely when they were about 5 years old. But that’s why I love it so much, it’s so reminiscent of my childhood, but obviously a bit more sophisticated! The dress is perfect for the coming summer months, and I also have a wedding coming up next month and I think it will be ideal for that too. Definitely one of my favourite purchases in a long while, and the price tag of only £25 makes it even more appealing!
I’ve linked my top 10 picks from Matalan at the bottom of this post, but for now I’m going to soak up some vitamin D whilst I still can.

My top 10 picks from Matalan
Women should be paid less ‘because they are weaker, smaller, and less intelligent’. That was a comment made by an actual EU LAW MAKER (!!!), Janusz Korwin-Mikke, this week. He’s also been an advocate for making child pornography legal in the past, so it’s pretty apparent that he’s not a very nice man. I’ve never planned on getting political on my blog, but this is something that’s been playing on my mind for the last few days. I’m well aware that sexists, racists, prejudicial people do exist, and in worryingly big numbers, but it’s shocking that someone with such a warped and dated view is in such a powerful position in this day and age. I shouldn’t be surprised really, seeing as Donald Trump has one of the world’s most powerful jobs, which still never fails to amaze me.
I’m well aware of sexism and the idea of ‘a man’s world’, but it’s not often that I see it laid out so clearly. A lot of sexism I come across tends to be subconscious, or in the form of someone who doesn’t really understand the implications of their actions, which obviously is still something that needs to be overcome. But for someone to outright voice their beliefs that women are inferior was pretty shocking for me. I may just be naive, but I’ve never heard anyone actually say that before. As it was International Women’s Day this week, there was a lot of info about feminism and gender floating around on social media. One thing that stuck with me was that women are often described as fierce and independent, but men are never depicted that way. I’d never even thought of it like that before, but it’s so true.
Seeing people with such views in powerful positions is worrying, but there are so many empowered, strong and successful women out there, and together there is no way that women will ever let people forget that we can kick ass.
I promise my next post will be less political!
