Today’s assignment, kick some ass!

I did cringe slightly when I was typing the title of this blog post, but I just couldn’t resist slipping in a School of Rock reference, and I think it’s quite appropriate considering the ass-kickingness of this jacket. Stick it to the man!  Today I have been channeling some serious bad ass vibes (how many times can I include the word ass in this blog post?), and you may think that I’m a bad ass MF for wearing a leather jacket in the depths of winter, but I can assure you I was as toasty as can be what with my thermal vest, long sleeve top and turtle neck underneath. That’s rock n roll for you, kids.

This outfit is pretty exciting, if I do say so myself, and it is slightly out of my comfort zone I must admit. I’ve never owned an item of clothing with any kind of badges appliquéd onto it, never mind Wonderwoman splat bang in the middle of my back. Nevertheless, something about this jacket drew me towards it when I saw it hanging in the chaotic Zara sale. I love it so much despite the fact that it has some words on it that I definitely don’t think are in the English dictionary, and are a total mystery to me, for example, WOEAAA and PLAK (???!!!). If I am missing something here and they are in fact words please do let me know. I would love to know what a plak is and start using it in my day to day vocabulary.

Anyway, enough of trying to decipher what my jacket says, it has Wonderwoman and BAM on it and that’s good enough for me. I wanted to keep the rest of the outfit plain and simple as the jacket is obviously very loud. I went with my classic pairing of black boots, black jeans and a black polo neck – a combination which my boyfriend regularly lets me know makes me look like Steve Jobs. So thank you Steve, not only for your products but for inspiring my style.

That’s all for now folks, I’m gonna go and save the world.

Casual Fridays

TGIF. I feel like I don’t have the right to say that since my structured days ended with my course last week, but this week has been incredibly busy and I’m beyond happy that this evening will be filled with friends, wine and board games. I swear I’ve never heard of a better combination than those three things, and my 2017 will quite possibly be made tonight as my friend has told me he has Friends Scene It – OH EM GEE.

It’s not been the easiest weather to take pictures in this week, I must say, because the wind will just not die down for more than a few seconds at a time. Does it not know that some people are trying to keep a consistent blog going over here? So inconsiderate. Thankfully we managed to find some shelter from the gales in a very glamourous car park so not all is lost, but unfortunately my windswept hair could not be saved. You win some you lose some.

I opted for a very sensible, weather appropriate outfit today (minus the bare ankles – one can only be so sensible.) This jumper has been an absolute life saver for me this winter, so you can imagine my panic when I couldn’t find it last week. Thankfully it had just managed to make its way into the chaos that is the bottom of my wardrobe (I can’t be the only one). It’s from H&M, who have been killing it with knitwear recently in my opinion. My jeans have featured on my blog before, and it’s no surprise that I’m including them again because they’ve hardly been off me since I bought them – I’d had my eye out for the perfect pair of light wash, cropped straight leg jeans, and I definitely struck gold with these. They’re the FAYE jeans from the Miss Selfridge sales, which means that unfortunately they may not be available in store anymore but you can find similar pairs pretty much everywhere on the highstreet at the moment if anyone is interested.

The shoes are my favourite aspect of this outfit, and tie everything together quite nicely I think. They’re covered in some kind of reptilian print (possibly snake? possibly some type of lizard? I don’t know but I like them) and have a wooden block heel. They’re from Topshop, and yes, I’ve done it again and included something that is no longer available – SORRY. I’ve included something similar down below though.

Anyhoo, time to crack open the rosè and brush up on my Friends trivia (like I need to brush up pfft).

White Jeans and Statement Sleeves

Hello all, I’ve had a bit of a break from the old blogging this week which was by no means intentional. I was struck down with a sickness bug right on the day of my first exam this week, which then nicely transitioned into flu like symptoms for the rest of the week. I’ll tell you now, it’s not the most glamourous situation to be sat at home surrounded by revision notes, a sick bucket, tissues and lemsip, but unfortunately that was my life this week. I’ll stop painting a picture now as the flashbacks are still making me nauseous! Anyway, now that I’ve finished this course I’ll hopefully have more time to focus on blogging whilst I’m job hunting and getting some experience – I’m still struggling to accept that I’m back in the real world after almost 4 years of student life!

I’ve been dying to dig my white jeans out from the back of my wardrobe since I said a teary goodbye to them at the end of summer, (I’m not melodramatic, I promise) and I really didn’t expect to wear them until at least May. But… *drum roll please* they are back out and here to stay! Was that not the most exciting announcement you’ve ever heard? Definitely worthy of a drum roll in my opinion. Recently I’ve let my hair down, thrown caution to the wind if you will, and decided that I’m not going to wait until something is ‘seasonally appropriate’ to wear it (within reason obviously – I’m not going to start whipping my sandals and shorts out just yet). I would like to point out that this is not the most adventurous thing I have ever done in my life, I am slightly more interesting believe it or not.

So – the breakdown of the outfit. The white jeans are the Topshop Joni style, which I have had for a couple of years now and they’re still going strong. The zip once completely broke and then managed to fix itself, so you could say these are miracle jeans. On top we have this AMAZINGLY soft jumper from Zara (honestly, just go into store and feel it), which has these hugely impractical but incredible statement sleeves which is a trend I’ve been wanting to try for a while now. I really like the simplicity of the colour palette of this outfit, and a solid black and white is a look I don’t really do that often. Finally, pulling together the alternate colour block are my simple black chelsea boots from Jones Bookmaker.

Right, I’m off to appreciate my newly returned health.

Winter Florals

I’m sick of winter. I’m sick of it getting dark at 4 o clock, I’m sick of it being pitch black when I get up in the morning, and most of all, I’m sick of feeling like I’m going to get frostbite when I step outside.

This time of the year is usually when I start yearning for a winter sun holiday, and this year is no different. I’ve found myself daydreaming about beaches and palm trees and summer cocktails far too much recently, and I’ve even gone as far as to check out some holiday deals just to torture myself that little bit more. But looking at pictures of people’s holidays to the Caribbean on Instagram and trying to experience some sunshine vicariously though them isn’t really doing me any good. So, for the time being a lot of us are having to suck it up and brace the cold until summer comes around and we’re hopefully able to jet off to somewhere hot, or perhaps we’ll even get some sunny weather in England too for a few days!

My outfit today is definitely a reflection of my sun cravings, as I’ve tried to inject some summer colours in the form of this floral Zara top. Albeit, it is definitely not winter appropriate and I think I let my summer excitement get the best of me as it’s a very light piece! Thankfully I had my coat waiting for me in the sidelines whilst I took these pictures, and I couldn’t get it back on quick enough. The things I do for a picture eh?

I paired the top within a simple black outfit as I wanted the florals to be the main element of the look, and I think the dark base compliments it well. The black skinny jeans are Topshop Joni jeans, which are my favourite high waisted fit that I’ve found, and my shoes are some suede-look sock boots from M&S. Since I have a degree in history, it was of course only a matter of time until I included a historic backdrop in some pictures, these being centred around the William Gladstone statue in St George’s Hall Gardens, Liverpool.

So, here’s to taking our first steps towards summer!

Knee High Kicks

Hello, hello! I’m coming to you on this Blue Monday with another outfit post and a very soggy fringe. I must say I’ve chosen the wrong time of year to start a blog, as it’s so bloody cold and so bloody wet ALL THE BLOODY TIME! That’s the north of England for you. This is take two of shooting this outfit, as by the time I’d found somewhere to take pictures over the weekend I was a little drowned rat – not a good look. I can’t say I look significantly less wet in some of these pictures (my hair suffered the most), but I did manage to avoid the rain a little bit more today.

As it’s apparently the most depressing day of the year today, I wanted to be as productive as possible so I could have that lovely feeling of guilt free relaxation at the end of the day and not beat myself up about all of the things I should have done. I can happily say that I’ve ticked off quite a few things (although I did convince myself I was far too busy to go to the gym today – any excuse).

Speaking of my attempt of a 2017 fitness kick, I’ve been true to my new year’s resolution and I have been to the gym a grand total of four times this week. FOUR TIMES. That is a huge deal for me. I now just strongly dislike it, whereas a few days ago I was firmly rooted in the ‘hating it’ stage, and that sure seems like progress to me. At the risk of going off on even more of a tangent, I wanted to give a quick mention to a video I recently watched on the topic of vegetarianism by the lovely charlottesweb, who I have followed for some time now. Although I’m not a veggie myself, the video has inspired another 2017 goal, which is for me to move towards it, or at least cut down on the amount of meat in my diet. That means no more Greggs sausage sandwiches for me (or at least stop having them on an embarrassingly regular basis).

Enough rambling and onto the outfit!! The main event of this ensemble is of course, these Zara over the knee boots. I’ve been after a pair of these for so long, but the main struggle I’d had was finding the right heel. I wanted a pair that weren’t so high that I couldn’t wear them in the day, but weren’t completely flat either. I think the block heel on these is perfect as it’s a comfortable height, and elongates the leg too. My only criticism of these are that they do slip down the leg slightly, but it’s really not that noticeable to cause that much of an issue.

I’ve paired the boots with a zip down checked skirt that I bought about a year ago from Primark. I really want this Topshop one in a similar pattern, but I just can’t justify it at the moment considering that I have this one in my wardrobe! Moving onto le torso, I’m sporting a white polo neck top, courtesy of my boyfriend (thank you Ben for sharing your wardrobe with me), and a slightly cropped leather jacket from Zara. And yes, I am aware it’s January, and yes, I was cold.

Until next time!
