Back to Basics

Hello and Happy New Year! It’s slightly (very) belated but better late than never eh? My January, as I’m sure is the case with many others, has been accompanied by the dreaded winter cold/sickness bug/general feelings of unwellness. My very generous boyfriend, always eager to share, passed me over his cold symptoms and of course I just had to top it by adding in some vomit too – charming, I know. So whilst I’m feeling sorry for myself on the sofa, I thought I’d share a recent outfit I shot with Dan last week, aka the good old times when I had my health.

I haven’t done much January sales shopping this year, just because I’m trying to buy less for both the sake of the environment and my bank account. However, I did pick up this blazer from Marks and Spencer for a mere £30, something which I was extra thrilled about as I know it’s something that I’ll get tons of wear out of all year round. M&S sales are one of my favourite as you can always find some great deals (I also picked up a cashmere jumper!) and I tend to have vouchers for there following the Christmas period. This cashmere turtleneck was actually a purchase from M&S last year with vouchers, although unfortunately it wasn’t in the sale but I can’t complain as I’ve gotten tons of wear out of it and it’s still as good as new.

Another recent addition to my wardrobe are these chunky lace-up boots. After wanting some for a while, seeing Holly Willoughby rock a pair every night on I’m a Celeb really sealed it for me, and it wasn’t long after that I was scouring the web for the perfect pair. These ones are from New Look (via ASOS) and were really affordable at just £35 – as I was ordering them I did question whether the quality would be any good but I’m so pleasantly surprised! They’re super comfy and weather resistant (something I was in dire need of in the shoe department). I originally got them as a practical yet stylish option for dog walks around the park as I didn’t really have anything appropriate for muddy days trudging across squelchy fields, and whilst they’re great for that, I’ve been reaching for them pretty much every day. They’re my favourite buy of the last few months that’s for sure.

And last but not least, the jeans. I’ve had these Topshop straight legs for a while now, I’d say well over a year, and I still love them. I’m actually on the hunt for another pair in a different wash but I’m yet to decide on what I’m after. I’ve really loved shopping my own wardrobe recently and playing with new and old pieces, and that’s something that I really want to do more of in 2019. Whilst I’m not taking part in any kind of shopping ban, or ‘banuary’, I am being more thoughtful when it comes to heading to the till or checking out online. I’m trying to steer clear of man-made, poor quality fabrics like acrylic and polyester, especially when it comes to knitwear, as not only does it mean they don’t last as long, it’s actually bad for the environment whenever you wash these fabrics which I only found out in the last few months!

Anyway, that’s it from me for now, I’m off to make myself a hot honey and lemon tea and feel sorry for myself for the rest of the day.
