Unwinding in January

I don’t know about you but I’m always drained and exhausted in January. It’s back to work, throwing yourself into your new year’s resolutions and trying to restrain yourself from ordering that pizza (I did fail at this yesterday). You feel like you should be refreshed after a week off at Christmas, but let’s face it – it’s never a relaxing period and you feel like you could do with another week to recover.

I’ve been struggling to unwind and relax over the past few weeks as there seems like there’s always something that needs to be done or people to be seen. This weekend though I decided to lock myself away from the world, ignore all responsibilities and be the most ‘chill’ I’ve ever been – and it’s been bloody fabulous.


The last two days have consisted of purely reading, catching up on YouTube videos and dog walking which you will have seen all about if you follow me on Instagram (daisycuttings). There’s something about the company of animals that is so soothing. Since I’ve become the master of relaxing (very recently albeit) I thought I’d share some of  the things I like to do to unwind.

Something that I’ve really gotten back into recently is reading. Admittedly over the past few years I’ve been that person who only really reads on holiday, but since getting back into the habit of picking up a book before bed I’ve been so relaxed and have had such good sleeps. If anyone’s on the hunt for a good book to read, I’ve just finished ‘Afterwards’ by Rosamund Lupton and I very much enjoyed it – perfect if you’re after a mystery/ thriller/ whodunnit kind of thing. I’d love to branch out into writing a few literary blog posts at some point, so please let me know if that would be something of interest.


A slightly more expensive (but worth it) way to unwind is booking in for a beauty treatment. A few weeks ago the ladies at Urban Calm in Liverpool kindly invited me down for a facial which included a lovely relaxing treatment and their LED Facemask – not only did it leave my skin feeling gorgy porgy, it was sooo soothing I wanted to go straight to bed after I left. If you’re looking for your next beauty treatment in the Liverpool area I would highly recommend paying them a visit as they have a whole range of services to choose from.


Now, a very widely used relaxation method, but is there anything more relaxing than bath? Relaxing music, a good book in hand, candles, a cup of tea (or wine – your choice) and using those toiletry goodies you got for Christmas – pure bliss. I don’t know about you but I have very much convinced myself to run a bath right now. I think I know what I’m doing after I finish this blog post… It also means I don’t have to sit in the living room – because do you know what’s not relaxing? Listening to the constant shooting noises from your boyfriend playing Call of Duty on his PlayStation – I’m sure I’m not alone in this.


Now if it’s okay with you I’m going to leave this here as I am feeling a very strong pull from my bathroom…
